Anyway, I read this quote this week, and prompted a thought. These are lyrics from a Sarah McLachlan song.
Peace in the struggle to find peace. Comfort on the way to comfort. And if I shed a tear, I won't fear love. And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it . . . I won't fear love.
So, I got to thinking about this idea of comfort. It's time for another list. I am going to encourage you to make your own list of your greatest comforts. It will bring that comfort on the way to finding your comfort that the song talks about. Pretty awesome, huh?
My Greatest Comforts
1. My mom
2. My bedroom
3. My fluffy purple blanket that Rachel and Ian bought me
4. Snuggling with my dogs
5. A house full of kids (or young adults these days)
6. Playing with my grandson
7. Knowing where my kids are (even though they are fully grown)
8. Chicken and dumplings
9. Hiking in Sequoia
10. Driving my car with the windows down and stereo up
11. Workout clothes and tennis shoes
12. My hair in a ponytail
13. Mentholatum
14. Cooking in my own kitchen
15. Folding laundry
16. Marking off my to do list
17. Putting outfits together (I have a very OCD way of arranging my closet). No judgments. It makes me comfortable.
18. Big over sized warm sweaters
19. Hot tea
20. A glass of red wine
Ahhhh! Did you make your list? Did you feel the tension leaving your body? Notice that I didn't add things that I just enjoy. These are things that bring comfort. I love to workout, but it's not my comfort zone, because I am always challenging myself and pushing myself to the limit. Instead, these are my places of rest. These are the places I go to let go of expectations and to feel safe. Do this activity, and you will immediately feel that wave of comfort come over you. It will also give you a way to find comfort on your way to comfort. Now, go. Be comfortable in your own skin. Snuggle up and take a load off.
