Spring Song
I really need fond memories right now. March has not been an easy month for the last three years. March 13th was the anniversary of the day my dad left this earth. March 24th, my birthday, is the anniversary of his funeral. Last year in March, our country went into stay at home orders to fight the COVID 19 pandemic. This March, I went to our local vaccination spot to get my first vaccination, and they turned me away because I am allergic to aspirin. Mind you, there is no aspirin in the vaccination, but they refused to give it to me any way. On top of all that, I found out we are going back to in person instruction with full classes and no requirement for vaccinations. Yeah. March is a tough one.
I've had to really think about the advice I've given here time and time again. I have to find the good in this month, and there is definitely good.
This weekend, I celebrated the beginning of spring with people I love. We had an amazing feast, took a nature walk, and just spent time together. This is incredibly important considering going back to in person instruction means I will have to give up my family. Because of the massive exposure I will be subjected to, I will not be able to see my grandchildren or my children. I will be completely isolated until the end of the school year and then for 2 weeks beyond that to quarantine to make sure I do not carry any deadly germs to those people that I love.
Whoops. See? There goes the madness of March again. Let's get back to the good stuff. Longer days. Seeing the sun rise in the morning. Warm days. Flowers. Spring Break. Orange blossoms. Fuzzy little bee butts. Birds singing. Open windows and open doors. There is so much to be thankful for.
That old cartoon and my self talk about getting my shit together instead of thinking of all the crap that March brings with it inspired me to rethink this month, so I wrote this simple little poem about the beauty that's there in even the ugliest moments.
Morning Sky
Fluffy pink puffs of sugar
Soft taffy twists and pulls into varied shapes
Floating by on sweet sunshine cream
A little piece of heaven
In a Spring sky
Find the beauty, friends. Let the ugly go. You can do it, and so can I.
