As I watch the news, I see that we all belong to this world, and this world is hurting. Until we can work as one and stand together, the hurt will continue. I wrote this in honor of all my friends, family, students, and colleagues of color.
Earth Weeps
Her essence spills across the earth in a blanket of warmth
With infinite diversity her colors swirl around our existence
Her injuries a thousand years untold
She presides over her people and rocks the world
Overseeing the hurt of oppression
With steady hands she knits the wounds of the human race
With each stitch the tremendous merit of her sisters is joined
The complexity of her sex is interwoven with every suture
Each stereotype interlaced with what she is and is not
Look at how she weaves
See how she binds humankind together
She is the bride whose veil hides societies gashes
The bridal procession marches toward time
There is beauty in all she is
The sisterhood of civilization dwells within her
The perpetual uniting of life abides with her
She continually ties humanity together
She is wife, mother, sister, all
