I haven't posted on here in a while. There's a simple explanation for this. This blog is about breast cancer, and I just haven't had anything new to say . . . until now. (Cue the ominous music).
I am going to hold off on posting this one until I am done with this little journey. Here's the rundown.
In March, I felt a lump in my right breast. I don't have a lot of breast tissue left, and the type of cancer I had rarely comes back. I chalked it up to scar tissue from my last reconstruction. I was smart enough to mention it to my doctor when I went in for this year's physical in June. Just to be safe, she ordered an ultrasound.
When the ultrasound came back, it showed a definite mass where that lump is, but it also showed a deeper lump in the left breast and one in my left lymph nodes.
I've already seen a new oncologist. I really, really like him. He's very kind and very thorough. He actually worked with my former oncologist at one time.
Side note: the older you get, the more you have to shop for doctors. I've had two of my cancer team doctors pass away and three of them have retired. Just keep that in mind as you age. My advice is, find doctors that are younger than you.
So, I have an appointment with a surgeon next week as well as an MRI and PET scan. We'll be scheduling a biopsy at my doctor appointment. Really, boobs are more trouble than they are worth.
Here's the lesson, don't be afraid to get irregularities checked. You might just save yourself a bunch of time and effort and even your own life.
